About The Position

Under general supervision of the Managers of Medical Imaging, assists in the direction of staff working in the diagnostic imaging department with regards to process, department flow, procedures and other activities related to the department operations. Operates equipment associated with their specialty as well as other general department equipment. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the geriatric, adult, and adolescent patient. Requirements

  • Completion of at least two years of formal training in a school of Radiologic Technology or equivalent.
  • Maintains a current license in the State of Rhode Island for their specialty.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the process.
  • Able to perform imaging studies in certified modality.
  • Five years radiology experience preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides overall guidance, direction, and oversight for CT, Radiology, MRI, Ultrasound, and all other Diagnostic Imaging departments as needed.
  • Serves as a resource person to resolve issues that might occur with nursing, technologists, patients, hospital clinics, off-site imaging offices or floors, physicians, etc.
  • Provides staffing and work assignments at the start of the shift, assessed, and modified during the shift as workloads fluctuate.
  • Oversees staff breaks and ensures adequate department coverage and staff usage.
  • Assists with the patient flow and resource allocation for all departments to provide efficient throughput.
  • Assists with Environment of Care (EOC) rounding for all areas and ensures that EOC standards are being met and followed.
  • Assures appropriate orientation for new personnel as needed.
  • Answers questions concerning department, imaging office and hospital process for staff.
  • Ensures safety and comfort of patient undergoing exams.
  • Performs TPESR audits and provides education to the staff when needed.
  • Performs other audits on all applicable staff and provides education to the staff when needed.
  • Can operate and navigate all pertinent IS software related to job functions such as PACS, LifeChart, Peoplesoft, etc.
  • Performs specialized, non-routine computer functions, as required.
  • Troubleshoots issues with PACS, EPIC, etc. for the staff and works with IT and Helpdesk as needed.
  • Performs quality control procedures such as merging unspecified exams, monitoring unread exams, etc. to ensure accurate and efficient exam processing.
  • Covers in area of specialty when the need arises.
  • Inventories and orders department supplies as necessary.
  • Assists with monitoring expiration dates of department supplies.
  • Maintains quality assurance, safety, environment, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Operates as a conduit to staff from different shifts and provides a smooth transfer of pertinent information.
  • Assists with equipment problems and malfunctions.
  • Consults service engineer as needed.
  • Arranges for necessary equipment maintenance, adjustment, or repairs by contracted services.
  • Reports any issues to the appropriate department manager.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of assigned area.
  • Carries pager as required for quick accessibility.
  • Performs other related duties, as required, or assigned.
