About The Position

The Imaging Care Technician job provides quality customer service to patients of all ages, their families, visitors, medical staff, clinicians and co-workers, ensuring that everyone will be treated courteously, quickly and with respect. This job assists in coordinating day-to-day patient care under the supervisor’s direction. The Imaging Care Technician job performs daily observations of patients under directions of supervisory staff. This role performs patient education by explaining the ordered procedure to the patient prior to performing the diagnostic study. This role also interacts with various customers by answering phones, directing calls to appropriate area/person. The Imaging Care Technician job takes complete and accurate messages. This position helps expedite exams by charging exams, patient prep, arranging patient transportation and assists with daily workflow.

Requirements

  • Previous work experience that required the use and understanding of medical terminology
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Performs daily activities with minimal supervision.
  • Self directed in the accomplishment of routine activities.
  • Issues that involve violation of VCUHS policies or procedures that involve conflicts of a sensitive nature, or that would be considered unusual in nature are to be brought to the attention of the Manager (or designee) promptly as would be warranted by the immediacy of the issue.
  • Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
  • Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with the manager.
  • Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet staffing requirements or as is in the best interest of the work area.
  • May require overtime and/or weekends.
  • Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs.
  • Other: Exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances (such as chemotherapy agents, TB, MRSA, VRE), radioactive materials, chemical materials, blood, blood products, formaldehyde, asbestos, radiation, lasers, microwaves, ethylene oxide, carcinogens or cytotoxins, work requiring the use of respiratory protection and general office chemicals.
  • Individual cannot designate a particular time for lunch break. Lunch breaks are assigned by supervisory staff.
  • May need to help move patients from bed/stretcher to CT scan table.
  • Activities: Prolonged standing, Prolonged sitting, Frequent bending, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive)
  • Other: Pushing/Pulling patients on stretchers/wheelchairs.
