About The Position

The Illustrator supports the DHS C‑UAS Program by creating high‑quality visual products that explain counter-drone technologies, detection methods, operational workflows, and public‑safety messaging. The role produces illustrations and visual layouts for print, digital media, online platforms, presentations, and briefing materials used across DHS components and critical‑infrastructure partners. The Illustrator enhances national security communication by producing clear, accurate visualizations that help DHS and partners understand threat detection technologies, operational processes, and public‑safety guidance. High‑fidelity graphics strengthen situational awareness, training, and mission readiness across the Homeland Security Enterprise.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S citizen with a valid secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Illustration, Graphic Design, or related field, preferred.
  • 5-10+ years technical illustration experience.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign.
  • Strong portfolio with technical, isometric, or concept illustrations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting DHS, DoD, or federal programs.
  • Familiarity with UAS/C‑UAS concepts.
  • Motion graphics or 3D modeling experience.

Responsibilities

  • Specifies graphic materials, lettering, visual styles, backgrounds, and typographic elements.
  • Designs layouts used in C‑UAS technology guides, test‑and‑evaluation documents, and public‑safety awareness campaigns.
  • Conceives, sketches, and develops illustrations for C‑UAS detection systems, sensors, and scenarios.
  • Studies project briefs, sketches, and technical diagrams to understand mission requirements.
  • Uses illustration software to refine designs and create isometric/perspective-based graphics.
  • Translates technical information into accessible visual representations.
  • Reviews illustration concepts with SMEs, engineers, and leadership.
  • Incorporates feedback and updates based on changes to C‑UAS program data.
  • Selects or creates typography and graphic elements.
  • Ensures consistency with DHS visual identity standards.
  • Alters illustrations to enlarge, reduce, clarify, or improve quality.
  • Prepares artwork for web, print, presentations, and multimedia.
  • Produces visuals for fact sheets, technology guides, training modules, risk‑awareness tools, and briefings.
