About The Position

The IL Pharmacy Resident position at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center involves developing competency in clinical practice, including appropriate drug therapy for patients and the prevention/resolution of drug-related problems. The resident will evaluate patients for drug-drug, drug-food, drug-lab, and drug-disease interactions, and individualize drug therapy regimens based on the patient's size, organ functions, and disease states. The role also includes facilitating medication-related continuity of care at admission, transfer, and discharge, reviewing and accurately interpreting medication orders, and ensuring formulary adherence while recommending cost-effective therapies to providers. The resident will actively support medication safety and quality improvement activities and provide direction to pharmacy technicians to ensure smooth workflow and service standards. This position requires participation in the residency program's design and progression as outlined by the program.

Requirements

  • Pharmacist license issued in the state(s) of practice according to the AAH Pharmacy Residency Programs Policy.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or PharmD.
  • No experience required.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation and training development skills.
  • Demonstrated decision making, team building, customer service, and conflict resolution skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Life support training courses may be required dependent on department discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Develops competency in clinical practice including appropriate drug therapy for patients and prevention/resolution of drug related problems.
  • Facilitates medication-related continuity of care at admission, transfer and discharge.
  • Reviews and accurately interprets medication orders.
  • Develops competency in dispensing and compounding medications consistent with good pharmaceutical practice.
  • Ensures formulary adherence, recommends cost effective therapies to providers, and minimizes waste in daily practice.
  • Actively supports procedures and initiatives to prevent medication events and reports events through appropriate channels.
  • Provides direction to pharmacy technicians to ensure smooth workflow and service standards.
  • Performs the activities expected in the residency program's design and progresses as outlined by the program.
