About the position

As a Customs Compliance Specialist at Baker Hughes, you will play a key role in managing customs clearance processes and procedures. You will be responsible for ensuring efficient customs operations and compliance with Baker Hughes IET customs standards. This position involves acting as the primary point of contact for customs operations, processing imports, filing customs declarations, and collaborating with internal stakeholders and vendors. You will also assess current customs processes for efficiency, ensure compliance with regulations, and provide guidance on customs-related topics.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for customs operations-related matters.
  • Perform timely processing of notified imports and resolve daily inquiries regarding imports.
  • File customs declarations in the respective government system and issue clearance instructions to approved customs brokers.
  • Assist in preparing customs clearance documentation and resolve transactional issues.
  • Assess current customs processes and propose enhancements.
  • Ensure all customs documents are retained according to local regulations and corporate policies.
  • Perform post-entry review of customs declarations and broker invoices.
  • Monitor and track critical shipments and resolve problems.
  • Provide advice and guidance on customs-related topics.
  • Support the implementation of Customs Special Programs and Free Trade Agreement Management.
  • Collect and report regular updates on agreed KPI's.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college with 5+ years of experience in customs compliance operations, or a High School Diploma/GED with 8-10 years of experience.
  • Working knowledge of local customs and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Self-directed, influential leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Prior experience leading teams on processes, training, and mentorship.
  • Ability to set goals and handle multiple tasks in a pressured environment.
  • Successful problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Desire and ability to become a Licensed Customs Broker or obtain equivalent certification.
