POSITION SUMMARY The Identifier inspects each horse’s tattoo, colorings and markings and compares them to the horse’s registration records prior to each race; inspects and verifies the identity of new horses on the track; provides support to higher level management staff; and performs related tasks within area of assignment. Inspects each horse upon its arrival and prior to its departure from the paddock to the post to confirm the horse’s proper identity by verifying its tattoos, numbers, colorings and markings. Reports any horse not properly identified or whose papers or information is not in conformity with the rules. Alerts judges to any horse late to paddock or not having arrived as scheduled. Records physical changes in horses such as weight changes or scars received since the last inspection; keeps identification records current. Attends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and innovations in the field of thoroughbred racing and identifying. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
