About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY The Identifier inspects each horse’s tattoo, colorings and markings and compares them to the horse’s registration records prior to each race; inspects and verifies the identity of new horses on the track; provides support to higher level management staff; and performs related tasks within area of assignment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (These functions are intended as a general illustration of the work performed in this job classification and are not all inclusive for this position) Delivers superior internal and external guest service the Boyd Gaming way by ensuring every interaction includes our Six Core Service Standards (Look sharp, smile and greet the guest; Be friendly, polite and use courteous language; Provide especially timely and knowledgeable service and then some; Always find solutions to guests’ problems; Use the guest’s name when appropriate; Thank the guest and invite him or her back.); and work harmoniously with fellow team members. Inspects each horse upon its arrival and prior to its departure from the paddock to the post to confirm the horse’s proper identity by verifying its tattoos, numbers, colorings and markings. Reports any horse not properly identified or whose papers or information is not in conformity with the rules. Alerts judges to any horse late to paddock or not having arrived as scheduled. Records physical changes in horses such as weight changes or scars received since the last inspection; keeps identification records current. Attends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and innovations in the field of thoroughbred racing and identifying. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience saddling and handling race horses.
  • Abiltiy to maintain all Regulatory licenses within assigned state of employment.
  • Must successfully pass background check
  • Must successfully pass an alcohol and drug screening
  • Must be willing to work a variety of shifts to include swing shifts and holidays if needed

Nice To Haves

  • Identification experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of: Operations, services and activities of a racing identification operations; a variety of methods used to identify horses; knowledge of thoroughbred racing and identification procedures; barn and valet operations; pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Ability to: Effectively identify all forms of horse marking; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; prepare clear and concise reports; interpret and explain policies and procedures; interpret and apply federal, state and local policies, laws and regulations.
