About The Position

The Grind Operator is responsible for maintaining parts flow to the machine using either auto load or hand load methods, ensuring caution during hand loading. The operator reads blueprints or job orders for product specifications, including dimensions, tolerances, and tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, and depth of cut, to determine the sequence of operations. The role requires teamwork and the ability to make size adjustments as needed. The operator observes the machine's operation and verifies the conformance of the machined workpiece to specifications using measuring instruments like fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers. Additionally, the operator must effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to technicians, operators, supervisors, and management. Knowledge of changing the wheel, installing guarding, and understanding machine controls and process control plans is essential. The Grind Operator also changes worn diamonds, rotates diamonds as needed, maintains adjustments on taper, and places workpieces in the hopper or fixture of automatic devices. The role includes replacing worn belts, making belt adjustments, and moving heavy baskets using pallet jacks. The operator examines and feels the surface of workpieces for defects and must understand how to power up, power down, start, and stop machines. Troubleshooting and adjusting auto loading mechanisms, turning valve handles to direct coolant or cutting oil flow, performing daily inspections on equipment, and conducting preventive maintenance per instructions are also part of the job. The Grind Operator follows all safety and housekeeping rules, policies, and procedures and performs any other job-related duties as directed by the supervisor or lead person.
