About The Position

If you’re ready to take the next step in your ICU career, we’d love to hear from you! We are seeking experienced Registered Veterinary Technicians to join our Intensive Care Unit. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with Board-Certified Criticalists, Surgeons, Internists, and Emergency Clinicians, supported by a knowledgeable and collaborative team of RVTs and veterinary assistants committed to outstanding patient care. This position centers on dedicated ICU nursing and continuous monitoring of complex, high-acuity patients, allowing you to fully apply and further develop your critical care skill set.

Requirements

  • Active California RVT license or ability to transfer from out of state
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an RVT
  • Confident managing critical, unstable, and ASA III+ patients
  • Strong technical proficiency with the ability to multitask in a high-acuity environment
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs and assist with team lifting for larger patients
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills

Nice To Haves

  • ER and/or ICU experience preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill all responsibilities of a Registered Veterinary Technician with an emphasis on ICU care.
  • Provide comprehensive, around-the-clock nursing support to critically hospitalized patients.
  • Monitor, trend, and accurately document vital signs, patient condition, and treatment responses.
  • Recognize subtle changes in patient status and promptly communicate findings to the medical team.
  • Deliver advanced nursing care for patients requiring oxygen therapy, transfusions, CRIs, and intensive monitoring.
  • Perform anesthetic monitoring for emergent, high-risk, and ICU-level procedures.
  • Assist with diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for critical patients across specialty services.
  • Obtain and process diagnostic samples, including: Venipuncture, arterial blood gases, cystocentesis, urinary catheter sampling Blood typing, crossmatching, and slide agglutination
  • Carry out advanced ICU/ECC procedures, including: Placement and maintenance of central and PICC lines Nasal oxygen cannula placement and oxygen cage management Administration and monitoring of blood transfusions Calculation, setup, and troubleshooting of CRIs
  • Maintain thorough and accurate medical records and ICU flow sheets.
  • Communicate with clients professionally and compassionately regarding hospitalized patients.
  • Uphold AVSG/VSSOC standards with professionalism, empathy, and courtesy at all times.
