About The Position

Perform technical and specialized work of a moderate grade of skill in connection with all types of electrical systems; analysis, detection and repair of defects in emissions monitoring, interlock and control systems, electronic devices including solid state equipment, communication systems, and instruments, such as: meters, gauges, solid state generator excitation controls, combustion controls, regulators, scales, coal handling, soot blower controls, and chlorination equipment. Assist in engineering and environmental studies, and calculations related to the operating efficiency of power plant equipment; and assist engineers in performing other technical services. Expected to align personal goals with the Mission, Vision, and Values of OVEC/IKEC.

Requirements

  • A two-year technical degree in electronics or equivalent discipline, or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience in electrical systems, electronics, and/or instrumentation controls.
  • Must be able to pass an examination and perform demonstrations.
  • Must satisfactorily complete all required training to advance to the ICE Technician classification.
  • Must have the basic degree of knowledge and skill necessary to perform work in the installation, inspection, repair, adjustment, calibration and servicing of instruments and controls.
  • Must have sufficient experience in the use of power plant instrumentation and/or environmental controls.
  • Must be able to read, interpret and work from prints and specifications.
  • Must have a working knowledge of equipment and clearance procedures, and the rules, safety practices, and procedures applicable to the work.
  • Must be able to pass driving tests as prescribed by the Company, and hold a valid State Driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic skilled work pertaining to the inspection, repair and maintenance of all types of electrical equipment.
  • Minor repairs on transformers, generators, coil repairs; minor repairs to air circuit breakers.
  • Analyzing, inspecting, testing and repairing of motors and their circuits for proper operations.
  • Locate and repair defects in emissions monitoring and/or control systems involving electrical, solid state electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulic components.
  • Analyze, test, calibrate, and adjust relays and related circuits, electronic devices, meters, control circuits, communication systems, and similar circuits and devices.
  • Prepare detailed instructions or sketches for repairs or revisions to controls of all types.
  • Assist engineers in preparing necessary data for engineering procedures, specifications, contracts, bills of material and requisitions for the installation, maintenance, and operation of equipment.
  • Set up and connect testing devices and perform tests on equipment such as boilers, turbines, heat exchangers, pumps, weigh scales, and fans.
  • Assist with installing, calibrating, and maintaining single-element control systems.
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, adjust, calibrate and repair emissions monitoring system devices.
  • Prepare and maintain records as required.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training materials and instruct and direct hands-on-training of other employees as assigned.
