JOB PURPOSE: This position performs the routine duties of handling, packing, and casing products. The position will also regularly assist in line sanitation and production floor clean-up functions. The position is usually seasonal in nature. Therefore, in the event of either a temporary layoff or a reduction in the workforce, handpacking reductions will occur first within this group of employees. They will be required to champion specific skills and coach others.

Requirements

  • Ability to work various shifts and various times.
  • Ability to learn all functions of assigned production lines in a quick fashion, as dictated by the production rate of the specific line.
  • Ability to navigate and use web-based programs such as Buildapp and Microsoft forms
  • Ability to work various hours and shifts (i.e., 8-hour, 10hour, or 12-hour shifts) as needed.
  • Able to work overtime and holidays when required.
  • Must be flexible within pattern of shift work to accommodate factory shutdowns, training courses etc
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, lift overhead, push, squat, and carry up to 35 pounds.
  • Monitoring and Quality assurance tasks require an adequate level of sight and smell.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a production environment and/or food production or handling is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performing all job functions in the safest manner possible.
  • Performing all assigned steps in the production and packaging of product, including:
  • Observing the quality of product and notifying appropriate personnel of potential quality problems.
  • Ensuring compliance with all sanitary procedures and policies.
  • Observing and correcting product position to ensure safe and undamaged mechanical processing and/or wrapping.
  • Packing finished product according to count, assortment, and arrangement specifications.
  • Casing product cartons.
  • Other activities as assigned by supervisor.
  • Keeping work area clean and free from obstructions, debris, etc.
  • Perform duties of break person as required.
  • Train other handpackers and share knowledge when required
  • May be required to present projects to staff members
  • Safety- Utilize appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment to ensure a safe working environment for the whole team.
  • Environment-Reduce costs due to waste and minimize impact to health, safety and the environment through working to eliminate waste and through the correct management of waste and hazardous materials.
  • Quality- Ensure that all aspects of Quality within the area of responsibility are in accordance with local Quality procedures to protect the brand and product.
  • Leadership- Promote the development of a highly effective and autonomous team through strong communication, leading by example and conflict management, whilst keeping focused on goals and targets.
  • Coaching- Champion specific skills within the autonomous team and coach them to others in order to drive excellence.
  • Business Awareness- Understanding of the need to meet changing demands and the role of marketing and product innovation in growing the business and increasing the company’s share.
  • Administration- Collaborate with colleagues to arrange shift and break cover, induct new employees and address performance shortfalls to ensure that team resources can meet operational requirements.
