About The Position

If you are a motivated student with skills and interest in IC Layout Design, Skyworks' Cedar Rapids Design Center is looking for you! As a home to an elite team of analog and RF professionals, you will work side by side with a mentor and grow your skills working on real products that will end up in the next generation of cellular phones. Get your foot in the door to cellular phone IC design - one of the most cutting-edge and impactful industries connecting people across the globe. You will support the design and development of physical layout tasks under the guidance of experienced Layout Engineers. The role involves translating schematic designs into physical layouts, ensuring functionality and manufacturability. This role offers valuable hands-on experience, mentorship, and a chance to contribute to innovative projects in the semiconductor industry.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an IC layout program at a technical institution
  • taking courses in layout techniques with the ability to place and route IC devices
  • Commitment to work onsite in Cedar Rapids for 6 months (July - December 2026)
  • Experience using a schematic/netlist-driven CAD layout process
  • A self-starter and team player with ability to learn on the job
  • Experience using Cadence Virtuoso and Calibre verification tools
  • Some experience with DRC/LVS checking
  • Good communication, organizational skills
  • Basic understanding of semiconductor processes, resistors, capacitors, and FETs

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with IC design engineers to lay out and verify ICs for wireless consumer electronic products
  • Assist in creating and modifying IC layouts using Cadence Virtuoso tools
  • Effectively communicate with engineering teams to meet schedules and milestones
  • Collaborate with design engineers to optimize layouts for power and performance area
  • Conduct layout verification, including DRC and LVS (Layout versus Schematic) checks, to ensure design integrity
  • Document layout processes and contribute to design reviews
  • Learn and adhere to process technologies and methodologies
