We seek an innovative and motivated individual who is eager to work as part of a Team at our Frederickson Facility! Reporting to the Operations & Maintenance Manager, the Electrical/Instrumentation and Controls Technician coordinates, and/or performs preventative and corrective maintenance activities related to the electrical systems, instrumentation and control components, and Continuous Emissions Monitoring System throughout the facility

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Instrumentation and Electrical School preferred.
  • Associates degree or bachelor’s degree in Industrial Electronics, Electronic Instrumentation, or equivalent engineering studies is preferred.
  • 5+ years in an industrial/power industry setting as an Electrical/Instrumentation Controls Tech.
  • Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of medium and High voltage electrical equipment including hardware drawings and protection devices.
  • Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of electrical preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Able to demonstrate journeyman level knowledge in E/I field.
  • Ability to read, understand, and comply with all regulatory and facility safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs, Electrical one-line & three line diagrams.
  • Able to meet plant site qualification standards.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Understanding of 40CFR Part 75 and Part 60 environmental regulations desired.
  • Ability to operate a fork lift and aerial lift is desired.
  • Physical mobility, including lifting and climbing, and ability to use PPE required.
  • Rotating Shift Work required.
  • Working Outside.
  • As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug test is required, subject to applicable law.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high, medium and low voltage switchgear and transformers is preferred.
  • Experience with ABB DCS preferred.
  • Experience with Maximo Corrective Maintenance Management System or preferred equivalent.
  • Experience with GE MkVIe turbine control system is preferred.
  • Experience with CISCO/VIMS CEMS and DAHS systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Completing work orders safely, efficiently , and effectively to maintain electrical and instrumentation systems of the plant.
  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical systems and equipment such as transformers, relays, switches, control, generator monitoring and control systems, medium and high voltage distribution systems and monitoring devices.
  • Diagnosing and repairing the cause of instrument and control system malfunctions including transmitters, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems, instrument loops, flow meters, pressure probes, temperature probes, level probes,
  • Conducting comprehensive analysis into electrical/instrumentation component and system issues and resolve practically and effectively.
  • Knowledge and competency of all applicable Electrical/Instrumentation codes and best practices.
  • Firm understanding of Capital Power policies and procedures.
  • Installing new electrical equipment as required.
  • Seeking out cost effective means in completion of tasks while keeping safety at the forefront.
  • Providing technical input into the improvement and optimization of plant electrical/instrumentation systems and processes.
  • Pursuing proactive measures for maintaining plant reliability.
  • Performing 230kV, 4160V, and 480V basic electrical systems maintenance (consistent with NEC electrical safety practices) and supervising outside contractors in the performance of such work including the development of work scope and bid analysis.
  • Fully supporting the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (Maximo) by philosophy.
  • Performs CMMS data entry and work order close-out in a thorough and timely fashion.
  • Performing capital project and/or major program responsibilities as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Responsible for maintaining detailed records of instrumentation repairs and calibrations.
  • Providing solutions to technical and team issues despite barriers that may exist.
  • Active participant and contributor to safety programs and initiatives.
  • Instilling zero risk to themselves and co-workers regarding HSE.
  • Accurately assessing the risk of equipment deficiencies to plant reliability.
  • Coordinating the updating of drawings and prints as required.
  • Creating and maintaining effective relationships amongst team and other groups in the plant.
  • Collaborating with other groups/disciplines for efficient resolution to complex issues.
  • Keeping operations staff on shift fully informed of unusual conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations
