As a Baggage Handler at Dulles International Airport, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth transportation of passenger luggage. Your primary responsibility will be to assist passengers at baggage claim, ensuring that their luggage is handled properly and efficiently. This position requires you to carry or transport luggage to and from the airport's main entrance and the ticket counter, as well as assist with oversized items such as kennels and skis. You will need to ensure that all luggage is placed on the conveyor belt within the designated time frame, adhering to security procedures and hazardous material handling requirements. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining and restocking baggage supplies, replenishing tubs, and keeping your work area clean and safe at all times. This role may also involve miscellaneous duties as assigned by management. The job requires physical stamina, as you may be required to lift up to 75 pounds or more for a significant portion of your shift. You will be expected to stand, walk, and climb stairs for two-thirds or more of your work hours. Effective communication skills in English are essential, as you will interact with passengers and need to read and interpret safety rules and operating manuals. The work environment is dynamic, with exposure to both indoor and outdoor conditions, and you will need to be prepared for varying weather conditions and a moderate to high noise level. Compliance with company grooming and uniform standards is mandatory, and you will be required to wear your SIDA badge/Airport ID at all times. This position is full-time and non-exempt, with shifts that may include weekends and holidays, requiring flexibility in your schedule.
