About The Position

The Oregon Department of Corrections (ODOC) is seeking a highly skilled Information Systems Specialist 6 to join our Information Technology Services Unit. The role offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the design, development, and maintenance of mission-critical software and applications that support public safety and efficient operations across the state. This position is available for current regular status employees of the Oregon Department of Corrections, Oregon Corrections Enterprises, or Oregon Board of Parole, Probation, and Post-Prison Supervision.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of information systems experience in IBM iSeries/AS400 and COBOL Development from the last 2 years; OR an Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND three (3) years of information systems experience in IBM iSeries/AS400 and COBOL Development from the last 2 years; OR a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND one (1) year of information systems experience in IBM iSeries/AS400 and COBOL Development from the last year.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with IBM iSeries/AS400 environments, including COBOL, SEQUEL, SQL, and CL programming.
  • Ability to design and plan conceptual and logical database models; experience with data mirroring and exchanging data between internal and external IT systems.
  • Skilled in code review and analysis; contributing to the creation of technical Run-Books, implementation plans, design frameworks, and modeling documentation.
  • Familiarity with Oregon's Corrections Information System (CIS); experience providing technical support for corrections staff and adults in custody.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a collaborative team responsible for the development, modification, and maintenance of ODOC's statewide information systems.
  • Focus on the Corrections Information System (CIS) and Offender Management System (OMS).
  • Support and enhance applications critical to the department's ability to manage offenders, ensure institutional security, and deliver essential services to adults in custody (AICS).
  • Participate in the development, review, and testing of IBM iSeries/AS400 COBOL software and modules.
  • Analyze and develop requirements in support of business needs for development of IBM iSeries/AS400 COBOL software and connected services.
  • Support data analysts, database administrators, and end-users.
  • Communicate with and provide support to a variety of business stakeholders and users of CIS and other connected IT systems.
  • Perform junior to Intermediate level troubleshooting and analysis of IBM iSeries/AS400 COBOL systems.
