About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner is assigned responsibility for the primary health care of patients in their area of expertise as well as specialty health care under the direction of members of the medical staff. Evaluation and care of patients occurs within the scope of practice defined and agreed to by members of the administrative team and medical staff. The nurse practitioner plans and implements, and a physician reviews and confirms, health care goals for patients and their families. The nurse practitioner works closely with the clinical nurse manager and staff to ensure that patient needs are met. These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, in accordance with the mission, values and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and guests.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing master's degree in nursing required.
  • Current RN license in the State of Illinois required.
  • Current APN license in the State of Illinois required.
  • Certification as an advanced practice nurse by the appropriate certifying organization required.
  • Five to seven years of clinical experience, at least three in the specialty area of care preferred.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in carrying out work duties.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model and advocate in the delivery of compassionate, comprehensive care to patients and their families.
  • Utilize expert knowledge, skills and abilities to strengthen clinical practice in their specialty throughout the organization.
  • Provide expert nursing care to their selected patient population.
  • Evaluate patient outcomes and revises plans of care accordingly.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of patient and family education materials.
  • Consult with nursing staff in the development of teaching plans for patients and their families.
  • Act as an internal consultant to staff and the community on healthcare issues in the area of expertise.
  • Facilitate research interpretation and clinical studies to advance clinical practice.
  • Promote the professional development of all nurses through specialty training and education.
  • Fosters staff education and development.
  • Serves as a role model and resource person throughout the organization for their clinical specialty.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability needed to ensure care appropriate to the age and needs of the population served.
  • Participate in and support organizational quality improvement initiatives.
  • Carries out other duties related to patient care and departmental operations as assigned.
