About The Position

The Instrumentation & Electrical Technician at South32 will provide essential technical support across various departments within the mine, focusing on instrumentation and electrical activities. This role involves installations, calibrations, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation systems, ensuring the mine operates effectively and safely.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • 3 years of electrical experience in industrial, mining, oil, and gas sectors.
  • Preferably 1 year of mining experience.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse functional and cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience with low, medium, and high voltage systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Experience with SAP.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain existing electrical and instrumentation equipment in the mine.
  • Locate and diagnose faults on electrical and instrumentation systems and equipment.
  • Investigate equipment failures and determine corrective measures to minimize reoccurrence.
  • Trace circuits of defective units and replace or rectify defective components.
  • Inspect transformers and conduct basic maintenance activities, advising on repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on breakdowns.
  • Conduct lightning detector checks and perform maintenance services.
  • Conduct earth resistance tests as required.
  • Align, fit, and assemble component parts using various tools and equipment.
  • Attend to breakdowns promptly to ensure continuous mine operation.
  • Provide inspections, repairs, installations, and recommendations as required.
  • Work from wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and equipment specifications for installations.
  • Calculate load requirements for circuits and select appropriate components.
  • Install new electrical and instrumentation equipment as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Conduct RCD testing on all new electrical installations.
  • Perform statutory Earth Resistance Testing and appliance testing.
