The I&C Safety System Manager leads the operations, assignments, activities, and resources of the Safety I&C Systems team. They are responsible for the technical adequacy of their scope, ensuring the appropriate safety, quality, as well as delivering the scope within budget and schedule in collaboration with the assigned Project Manager. The I&C Safety Systems Manager reports to the ICE Sr. Manager directly.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in engineering relevant field, with at least 10 years of relevant experience
  • 3+ years in a combined technical leadership role with leading performance of technical scope and/or additional manager responsibilities.
  • Strong background in development of highly reliable software or firmware systems often used in mission critical applications.
  • Familiarity with design control and development in accordance with nuclear power plant quality assurance (e.g., 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, ASME NQA-1).
  • Experience estimating time and resources needed to execute engineering activities.
  • Experience working under a nuclear quality assurance program.
  • Experience with working with partners, suppliers and multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong technical acumen, with the ability to understand complex technical concepts is highly desirable.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with nuclear reactor safety systems or nuclear instrumentation systems designs desired.
  • Experience working with highly multidisciplinary and matrixed teams.
  • Experience managing projects executed under a high degree of regulatory oversight, with a preference for experience building Nuclear Power Plants.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the execution of the design, analysis, and/or type of engineering work products associated with the assigned scope using appropriate standards, technical best practices, corporate and project execution practices, Quality Assurance and safety procedures, and other requirements.
  • Work with managers, technical staff, Subcontract Procurement Engineers, Contract Managers, Project Manager(s), and PMO to develop plans and activities to support the project delivery goals and cost constraints.
  • Manage engineering resources allocation across multiple teams that report to their group and ensure qualified engineers are performing work.
  • Develop and manage a highly effective group of technical staff through training, qualification, coaching, and mentorship, and ensure that clear expectations are communicated and met.
  • Provide technical directions to ensure the I&C Safety Systems team, partners, and suppliers successfully deliver high-quality work products that are on schedule and within budget as defined by the Natrium leadership and Project Management teams.
  • Use high level of judgement to make team effecting decisions and handle complex tasks or problems.
  • Identify staffing needs and engage HR support to assist in the recruitment and selection of additional staff and develop and refine the group organizational structure to enhance performance.
  • Provide technical oversight of contractor, supplier, and partner work where applicable.
  • Keep technical staff, and Natrium leadership informed of major emerging technical issues.
  • Provide input to technical risk harvesting exercises and ensure that these risks are properly defined and managed.
  • Provide reviews and approvals attesting to technical adequacy of work products.
  • Ensure design conducted in accordance with project requirements, configuration management and change control plans and practices.
  • Ensure interface with regulators, stakeholders, and customers on scope design issues is carried out in a technically sound, accurate, and complete basis.
