About The Position

The Forklift Mechanic in the Maintenance department is responsible for servicing, diagnosing, and repairing Hyster-brand electric forklifts and material-handling equipment at Cardinal IG, a world-class glass fabricator that leads the nation in providing the highest quality insulating glass products for the residential window and door industry.

Requirements

Must be 18 years or older
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
3+ years of experience servicing Hyster forklifts or a heavy equipment technician required
Hands-on experience with Hyster brand systems, diagnostic software, and OEM procedures
Hyster/Yale OEM technical training or certification required
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and organizational abilities
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics

Nice To Haves

Experience with fleet maintenance management systems (e.g., CMMS)
Welding or fabrication experience preferred
Prior background in warehouse, manufacturing, or distribution environments
OEM certifications (Hyster), ASE or equivalent mechanical certifications required
Hyster Electric Forklift Mechanic experience or OEM certification in Hyster preferred

Responsibilities

Adhere to all company policies, procedures, safety practices, and guidelines
Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on Hyster forklifts, including electric
Troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, masts, hydraulics, and electrical components
Conduct battery and charging system evaluations for electric lift trucks
Complete preventive maintenance (PM) programs according to manufacturer guidelines, including performing routine tasks such as lubrication, tire service, and brake adjustments
Safely operate forklifts and related equipment during repairs and testing
Identify and recommend necessary parts, components, or system upgrades
Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and company policies by adhering to safety requirements and regulations for equipment while following established protocols
Collaborate with supervisors and operations teams to minimize equipment downtime
Operate High Tech Equipment while conducting repairs on various types of forklifts
Ensure open communication with the manager and team by ensuring radio remains on while working on the plant floor
Promptly respond to service requests or equipment malfunctions while adhering to manufacturer guidelines
Utilize diagrams, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and schematics to troubleshoot malfunctions and complete repairs
Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools, schematics, and OEM documentation to ensure optimal equipment performance
Maintain accurate and timely service records, work orders, and parts usage documentation for repairs and maintenance services, while staying up to date with industry advancements in forklift technology
Collaborate with team to identify opportunities for process improvement, equipment reliability
Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment and with other departments
Perform housekeeping tasks in the workspace to maintain a clean work area
Assist the team, leads, and management in achieving departmental objectives
May be required to work overtime, different shifts, and perform additional tasks to meet company needs and deadlines
Requires regular in-person attendance
