About The Position

Under the direction of the wound care manager, the hyperbaric oxygen technician will administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the hyperbaric physician or APP. They are responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber and related support systems. The safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen to the hyperbaric patient. Administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy and diagnostic testing to patients under the supervision of a hyperbaric physician or APP. All therapeutic and diagnostic modalities will be ordered by the hyperbaric physician or APP.

Requirements

  • Current license or certification in one of the following areas: Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician, Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN), Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Hyperbaric Technologist.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • CHT course required within 6 months of hire and test within 18 months of hire.
  • Minimum of (2) two years experience in healthcare is required.
  • Ability to work independently, emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress
  • Good Communication skills, oral and written
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, and Change management
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and coordinate daily work load
  • Working knowledge of protected health information

Nice To Haves

  • Wound, Hyperbaric or critical care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate professionalism and commitment to the mission statement of NGHS.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the policies and procedures of Hyperbaric Medicine.
  • Ascertains that the patient's diagnosis is one of the appropriate approved disorders for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, and that the said diagnosis is clearly entered on the patient's chart.
  • Implements the physician's orders as indicated by the patient's treatment plan.
  • Implements the physician's orders as indicated by the patient's treatment plan.
  • Educate patient and/or patient's family as to the benefits, risks, contraindications, and safety issues of hyperbaric oxygen therapy before treatment.
  • Perform blood glucose monitoring as ordered and indicated by patient's diagnosis.
  • Inspect the patient prior to the commencement of each Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy session to ensure all safety standards are being adhered to (100% cotton attire, no makeup, no hairspray, etc.)
  • Performs dressing changes and/or wound care within scope of practice, as ordered and participate in clinic when HBO volumes are below par.
  • Evaluates patient outcome, meets with the manager and the hyperbaric physician to discuss patient treatment, and adjusts treatment as necessary.
  • Consults with hyperbaric physician regarding any adverse reactions.
  • Document treatment notes and maintain patient treatment/diagnostic records.
  • Complete the patient's treatment charges, if required.
  • Perform quality control daily on department glucometer, or as required by policy.
  • Clean and maintain the equipment according to infection control standards.
  • Maintains continuous quality improvement duties and chart audits.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and schedule patient treatment times.
  • Performs inventory checks and maintains a record of supplies and laundry items.
  • Maintains equipment and checks backup air and oxygen supplies on a daily basis.
  • Orients new employees as necessary.
  • Produces reports if requested by the manager/director.
