About The Position

The Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Safety Director is responsible for the safe operation of the multi-place chamber to deliver Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) as prescribed by a qualified hyperbaric physician. This role includes supervising all HBOT technicians and overseeing all aspects of the program to ensure adherence to established guidelines and protocols.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Education required for certification or licensure (e.g., EMT, CNA, RT, RN, LVN).
  • Certification in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (CHT or CHS) required within 90 days of hire.
  • Completion of an approved hyperbaric safety director course within 90 days of hire.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a hyperbaric technician.
  • BLS Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Must be able to tolerate daily pressurization, medically cleared by a physician well-versed in hyperbaric medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Administer hyperbaric oxygen treatments safely and effectively under physician supervision.
  • Operate and maintain hyperbaric chambers and associated systems and equipment.
  • Monitor patient conditions in the chamber and record data as per established guidelines.
  • Ensure patient comfort and address any concerns during treatment.
  • Report unusual occurrences to the supervising physician promptly for patient safety.
  • Prepare patients for HBOT, ensuring all risk factors are controlled before and during treatment (coordination with the medical team required).
  • Conduct patient orientation sessions and provide ongoing education to maintain patient safety.
  • Keep comprehensive patient treatment records, data collection, and documentation in the EMR.
  • Set up and operate all HBOT-related equipment, including patient monitoring systems and safety logs, ensuring all safety checks and maintenance are conducted routinely.
  • Implement emergency measures if necessary, following established protocols.
  • Perform routine cleaning of chambers and equipment to prevent infection transmission and ensure proper functionality.
  • Manage inventory by monitoring and requesting supply orders in advance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional clinic environment.
  • Conduct in-service educational sessions to promote hyperbaric oxygen therapy knowledge among staff and new personnel.
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety standards set forth by OSHA and the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.
  • Serve as a tender in the multi-place chamber on a rotational basis with other technologists to monitor and assist patients.
  • Communicate with insurance companies to obtain necessary treatment authorizations.
  • Cross-train with team members to ensure smooth and uninterrupted clinic function.
  • Assist in staffing other USWC clinics based on organizational needs.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.
