About The Position

The Hydrologist II position is a journey-level role within the professional Hydrologist class series. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting and interpreting data, performing complex hydrologic analyses of surface and groundwater systems throughout Nevada and the Colorado River basin states. This role involves designing and implementing hydrological research programs to support water resource planning and decision-making, including the development of strategies for water conservation, reuse, and recovery. The ideal candidate will possess advanced analytical skills, a strong understanding of scientific methods and environmental data, and the ability to interpret complex datasets to inform critical decision-making. They will also demonstrate exceptional organizational and leadership skills, capable of leading technical tasks while collaborating with team members in a high-performance, customer-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in geology, hydrology, civil engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible professional hydrologic experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A valid Nevada driver's license and ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy.

  • Knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of hydrology and geology at a professional journey-level.
  • Experience with hydrologic analysis and modeling software and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct complex hydrologic analyses to assess hydrologic conditions and factors influencing groundwater elevations and flows.
  • Identify available water resources and analyze potential environmental and water rights impacts associated with resource development.
  • Review technical reports, court rulings, and relevant orders to inform analyses and ensure defensibility of decision-making processes.
  • Participate in building databases and conducting analyses and modeling data to support development of new water rights.
  • Design and implement scientific research programs to inform strategic planning and decision-making processes.
  • Prepare technical scientific reports on complex hydrologic, water resource management, and environmental topics.
  • Work with other departments and external entities on development of water supply augmentation strategies.
  • Design, develop, oversee, and ensure maintenance of monitoring networks for surface water, groundwater, and meteorological conditions.
  • Lead permit compliance monitoring for the LVVWD Aquifer Storage and Recovery program.
  • Coordinate the water quality sampling program for the LVVWD Aquifer Storage and Recovery program.
