Hydrologist I - Hazardous Substances
About The Position
The DNREC-Remediation Section protects public health, welfare, and the environment in Delaware by managing and assisting with the investigation, clean-up and restoration of hazardous substance, petroleum, and hazardous waste release sites. This includes sites in the Brownfields, Voluntary Cleanup and Corrective Action Programs. This is an entry-level Hydrologist I position that will work within the Remediation Section, HSCA Branch and be responsible for confirming and evaluating the nature and extent of contamination related to hazardous substance releases. This position performs a full range of essential functions including managing the investigation and clean-up of sites under the Hazardous Substance Cleanup Act (HSCA). Additionally, this position will provide technical support in regulation development and the evaluation and regulation of groundwater quality.
Requirements
- Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Geology, Hydrology or related field.
- Knowledge of hydrogeology and stratigraphy.
- Knowledge of collecting hydrologic field data such as geologic descriptions, water levels and water samples.
- Knowledge of technical report writing.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
Responsibilities
- Collects, analyzes, and interprets field samples, scientific literature and statistical data.
- Supervises and documents the installation of wells; inspects and compiles data regarding existing wells, waste disposal sites, and underground storage facilities.
- Summarizes data used in studies, projects, plans, specifications and research.
- Performs mathematical calculations to aid in the selection of alternatives.
- Reviews and comments on permit applications.
- Provides technical and regulatory information.
