IHI Power Service Corp. (PSC) has a career opportunity for a Hydro Technician at our Yards Creek, NJ plant. The hourly rate range for this position is $40.35 - $57.20 per hour, depending on level of experience. Position Classification: Bargaining Unit Job Summary The Hydro Technicians, under general directive supervision, work with and directs a crew of employees in operation, maintenance, overhaul and repair of hydro turbines and all auxiliary associated equipment.

  • Level 1 with two-year degree or equivalent. Rate 1 of (1151) Hydro Technician (Less than 1 Yr.) will apply until entry level training and qualification requirements have been completed and 6 months have elapsed.
  • Level 2 Rate 2 of (1151) Hydro Technician (Less than 1 Yr.) will apply until the training and qualification requirements for this level have been completed and 6 months have elapsed.
  • Level 3 Job Rate of (1151) Hydro Technician (Less than 1 Yr.) will apply until the training and qualification requirements for this level have been completed and 6 months have elapsed.
  • Level 4 Rate 2 of the (151) Hydro Technician will apply until the training and qualification requirements for this level have been completed and 6 months have elapsed.
  • Hydro Technician. The (151) Hydro Technician Job Rate will apply when all training, OJT/OJP, and qualification requirements have been met. (Max. 2 years)
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
  • Performs routine clerical work including station logs (such as maintenance repairs and outage logs), time reports, material requisitions, etc
  • Reads and interprets complex blueprints, wiring and schematic diagrams, as required to perform both internal and external switching and tagging (mechanical and electrical).
  • Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas in a neat, clean and safe manner.
  • When work within this job classification is temporarily interrupted or delayed, employee may be assigned to other work which the employee may reasonably be expected to perform with safety to self and others.

  • Physical requirements include the possibility of working on foot for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds.
  • All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
  • Must be able to work in elevated areas, confined spaces and in extreme heat & cold conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for compliance with current company safety rules and procedures including operating practices, safety procedures, and all regulatory requirements. Conducts and adheres to pre-job briefings for each task.
  • Starts stop and operates turbine generators and auxiliaries, as required. Observes and records readings of required indicators and/or instruments, for safe operation within prescribed limits.
  • Installs, adjusts, maintains, analyzes problems, and repairs all mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, microprocessors, and electronic (solid state) sensing, programmer logic controllers (PLC), transmitting, indicating, integrating, recording and regulating apparatus, equipment and circuitry associated with the station.
  • Performs all types of tests, calibrations and repairs to instrumentation, test apparatus and laboratory equipment. This includes all equipment associated with environmental protection and monitoring. Participates in scheduled regulatory certification tests and in the preparation of the required data reports. Adheres to all environmental requirements.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, installs, tests, removes and replaces motors, generators, rotating equipment, rectifiers, batteries, transformers, regulators, reactors, circuit breakers, disconnecting switches, instruments, control relays, communication equipment, lightning arrestors and other equipment with control apparatus in the generating station, associated substation and facility.
  • Performs any mechanical maintenance installation and repair on station equipment, structures and buildings.
  • Performs pipe fitting, pipe covering, insulation, incidental machining, non-code welding, brazing, flame and arc cutting.
  • Operates plant equipment needed to perform job duties including vehicles, cranes, hoists, etc.
  • Directs the work of others assigned to assist as well as directing, training, inspecting and instructing employees of lower or the same job classification in all aspects of unit operation, auxiliary operation and repairs.
  • Installs, troubleshoots, inspects, tests, repairs, replaces, maintains, adjusts, aligns and balances mechanical, electrical, instrument and control equipment. Operates various testing equipment and instruments.
  • Sets up rigging and scaffolding.
  • Performs insulation and refractory work.
  • Operates and maintains water treatment equipment.
  • Performs any task assigned for continuity or restoration of service in and emergency.
  • May be required to be “on call” and to report in a timely manner.
