About The Position

Tunista Logistics Solutions (TLS), a Yulista-owned company, provides comprehensive base operations and facility support services. TLS specializes in air combat training systems, logistics management, furnishing and office support, range maintenance, fire and emergency services, armed security, airfield operations, civil and environmental engineering, fuels, and more. At Rock Island Arsenal, a 946-acre National Historic Landmark located on the Mississippi River between Davenport, IA, and Rock Island, IL, TLS supports a wide range of facility maintenance operations for over 6,500 personnel across multiple U.S. Army commands. Scope of Work This position serves as an operator apprentice completing a progressive training program to be able to demonstrate: Complete control of all hydro systems and procedures Motors, generators, controllers, and programmable logic controllers (PLC) control and knowledge. Knowledge of all electrical distribution, schematic diagram reading, and troubleshooting. All Hydro plant duties and responsibilities, procedures, operations, equipment, safety requirements, record keeping, and emergency coordination. Intermediate Hydro Plant Operator Requirements All operational procedures and safety regulations governing the hydro plant. Ability to effectively communicate with USACE Lock and Dam 15, Mid-American, and DPW Flood control plans at hydro Emergency hydro procedures, operations, and equipment. Ability to prepare both nightly and monthly power reports. Key and badge control program Racking of high voltage breakers Cleaning of trash racks After hours call-in procedures Competent Hydro Operator Requirements 10 starts and stops of generators locally and remote. 5 open and close operations of Sub-A switchgear. 2 open and close operations of Sub-A breakers 1A/2A and Sub-A Bus Tie. 2 open and close operations of Sub-A breakers 1E/2E and 2400 volt Bus Tie. cycle reclosure breakers Hydro plant maintenance requirements Employees must be able to demonstrate complete control of all hydro systems and understanding of hydro procedures. Hydro Plant Operator Apprenticeship Program Requirements Evaluations Every six months during the program, a documented progress evaluation will be conducted by the supervisor to ensure the candidate is meeting the requirements of the program. Qualification as an intermediate and competent hydro plant operator is subject to COR approval Shift schedule First phase will be 6 months will be on straight day shift Monday – Friday Second phase will be 1-2 months with machinist and electrical crew Third phase will be off shit work 1-2 months of both straight 2nd shift and 3rd shift Fourth phase will include doing a rotation with each operator Fifth phase will be operating the plant alone with an operator while senior operator monitors progress Note: Competency is determined by the Hydro/High Volt Supervisor and completion of qualification cards for Intermediate Hydro Operator and Competent Hydro Operator, to include final examination. Failure to complete the Apprenticeship Program will result in the employee’s termination from Tunista Logistics Solutions employment.

Requirements

  • All Hydro Operator Apprentices shall receive a physical evaluation prior to acceptance into apprenticeship. This physical evaluation shall be performed by a qualified physician and certify the employee’s general health, vision, and hearing are sufficient to allow the employee to provide safe hydro plant operation as well as emergency operation measures
  • Must be able work rotating shifts and holidays.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical equipment and hydraulics.
  • Motors, generators, controllers, and programmable logic controllers (PLC).
  • Electrical distribution, schematic diagram reading, and troubleshooting.
  • Hydro plant duties and responsibilities, procedures, operations, equipment, safety requirements, record keeping, and emergency coordination.
  • Must have some formal electrical education or experience.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 50 lbs. Maximum lifting/carrying capacity per employee is 40 lbs.; team lifting or mechanical means is required thereafter.
  • Able to be exposed to inclement weather (extreme hot/cold, rain, wind, and snow), and working over water.
  • Be able to perform On-Call duties when and report to work within the required timeframe from notification.
  • Ability to work in a 24-hour, 7 days a week, shift operation.
