The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is currently recruiting for a Hydraulics Culvert Engineer . This position manages the statewide culvert asset inventory and serves as the Department’s authority in culvert design, rehabilitation, and advanced hydraulic modeling and design. Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field such as Construction, Mechanical, Petroleum, Mining or Environmental Engineering.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) with the ability to obtain a MT PE license within 6 months.
  • Minimum 4 years of progressive civil engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hydraulic engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of the principles of civil engineering, hydrology, hydraulics, fluvial geomorphology, and river mechanics.
  • Knowledge of the methods and practices of road and culvert construction.
  • Skill to manage, organize, and categorize multiple engineering reports, recommendations, and designs.
  • Skill in the use of standard and specialized hydraulic engineering software applications and modeling techniques,
  • Skill with data management and database systems, especially within GIS software.
  • Ability to investigate, analyze, and form professional objective solutions to complex hydraulic engineering issues.
  • Ability to exercise sound engineering judgement when developing and implementing solutions to engineering problems.
  • Written and verbal communications skills for the development of technical engineering reports, specifications and other technical information.
  • Driver's record will be verified.
  • Successful applicants will be required to sign a release form which authorizes the Department to obtain the applicant's permanent driving records.
  • Compliance with Mont. Admin. R. 2.6.201, "State Vehicle Use", and MDT Policy #6.03.001, "State Vehicle Use Policy" are conditions of employment.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States must be provided if selected for hire.
