The West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a Junior Data Scientist with the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI). This position resides within following WVCTSI core: Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD). This position will assist WVCTSI Biomedical Informatics Resources group with analyzing data, modeling, and developing machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for various projects. Incumbent will assist with data wrangling as well. This position reports to the Senior Data Scientist. Position will be responsible for writing code in Python and/or R, interpreting and reporting results, and preparing journal manuscripts. This position will also report to the office of Graduate Education (ORGE) to assist in projects and programs in which data scientist skillsets are needed. The responsibilities with WVCTSI will encompass 70% of this position and the responsibilities with the ORGE will encompass 30% of the position. Incumbent will follow data management standards, procedures, and documentation using knowledge of the healthcare regulatory environment to ensure conformance to internal and external policies, protocols, and regulations such as HIPAA. Responsibilities require some judgment, resourcefulness, and originality, but diverse guides and precedents are usually available to apply or adapt to the circumstances. Work effort has considerable impact on client services, program and project image, with potential legal liabilities.
