The HVAC Technician is a full-time, year-round position at Amherst College, supporting the Mechanical Shop. This role involves software work related to the operation, maintenance, repair, programming, and installation of building automation systems and HVAC controls. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting and performing maintenance services on various control systems, such as information technology, safety, energy management, digital, electronic, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic. The technician will test, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair all types of building automation system equipment and software, including HVAC equipment and controls, fans, blowers, motors, fan coils, VAVs, heat exchangers, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air conditioning, and pumps. The position requires the ability to read wiring diagrams and blueprints and troubleshoot low-voltage circuitry. The HVAC Technician also provides advice and guidance to other staff and serves as a technological point of contact with manufacturer representatives and building automation service contractors for systems like Automated Logic and Andover/Schneider Electric Building Management systems. This is considered an essential position, requiring work outside normal operation hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and responding to emergencies as needed.
