An HVAC technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in residential and commercial settings.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Additional training or certification in HVAC technology is preferred.
  • Proven experience as an HVAC technician is often required, with a strong understanding of HVAC systems and components.
  • EPA Universal Certification is commonly required to handle refrigerants and other hazardous materials.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a solid understanding of electrical and mechanical systems related to HVAC equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Install HVAC systems, including air conditioning units, heating systems, and ventilation systems, ensuring they are set up according to specifications and safety standards.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance and longevity. This includes cleaning ducts, changing filters, and checking for leaks.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in HVAC systems, including troubleshooting issues and replacing defective parts as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service by explaining repairs and maintenance procedures to clients, ensuring they understand the work performed and any necessary follow-up.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed, including the type and cost of services provided.
