About The Position

The Environmental Systems Mechanic III position at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics involves skilled work in the installation, repair, alteration, replacement, and maintenance of environmental systems, including refrigeration and heating systems. Requirements

• Eight years of experience in computerized building environmental automation systems, refrigeration, or air conditioning work, including apprenticeship.
• Two years of experience in evaluating and recommending system optimization changes, or two years of experience in evaluating and recommending system optimization changes and meets the minimum eligibility requirements of ESM II.
• Refrigeration certificate of at least type 2.
• Journeyman license required.
• May need to possess a valid driver's license and meet the University's Fleet Safety Program.

• Prefer 2 years of college/trade school.

Responsibilities

• Perform installation, repair, alteration, replacement, and maintenance of environmental systems components.
• Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair chillers and associated auxiliary equipment.
• Conduct leak tests, transfer refrigerants, and handle Freon refrigerants according to EPA regulations.
• Use computerized building environmental automation systems to diagnose and recommend system modifications.
• Modify building automation systems that control heating and cooling systems.
• Provide functional guidance and training to apprentices and other personnel.
• Investigate methods and equipment for computerized building environmental automation systems and make recommendations.

Benefits

• Full-time position with a primary schedule of 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
• Starting salary range from $63,362.08 to $75,602.72.
