Wayne State University is searching for an experienced HVAC Technician II at its Detroit campus location.   • Troubleshoot, repair, replace, install and perform planned corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance tasks on heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC) and Hot water and steam boiler systems, equipment, associated piping and controls.
  • Evaluate equipment conditions, standards, and codes to develop corrective and preventive maintenance tasks, replacement equipment, sub-assemblies, and components, and any technical updates or upgrades.
  • Comply with all required environmental rules, regulations and policies governing the safe handling of refrigerants, oils, solvents, etc.
  • Adhere to Environmental, Health and Safety rules, regulations, and policies such as personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, control hazardous energy sources, Lock out Tag out procedures, fall protection when using ladders and lifts or working at heights, confined space entry rules and policies, and proper machine guarding rules and regulations while working on or operating equipment.
  • Follow all Occupation Health, Safety and Environmental regulations, Wayne State University policies, and work practices, including personal protective equipment (PPE) during work activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • High school completion (or GED).
  • Graduation or Certificate of Completion from a HVAC related trade or vocational school with mechanical courses, or completion of an apprenticeship in an allied trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • EPA 608 Universal CFC Refrigerants Training and Certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of verifiable hands-on repair and installation experience in a commercial HVAC service environment.
  • Minimum 3 to 4 Years of verifiable hands on work experience in a commercial HVAC service related industry.
  • Graduation from a community college with an Associates degree for HVAC or RACH Technician or Graduation from a department of labor recognized vocational training program.
  • Training Certification and Experience with Siemens, Johnson Controls, Automated Logix or Honeywell controls.
  • City of Detroit Boiler Operators License or City of Detroit Refrigeration Operators License.
  • NIULPE Boiler or Refrigeration Operators Certificates.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 Certifications.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to continuing education on HVAC, Boiler and Chiller equipment and technologies.
