About The Position

Under general supervision, assists in performing various maintenance, repair and replacement of HVAC systems in various County buildings and related structures.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or certificate from a vocational school in HVAC course work
  • One to three months related experience and/or training; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of general maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, HVAC measuring and testing equipment
  • Knowledge of EPA laws, state laws and codes
  • Knowledge of chillers and split systems
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of department policies, procedures and regulations covering specific areas of assignment
  • Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships
  • Skill in using initiative, discretion and decision making within established procedures, guidelines and rules
  • Skill in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions
  • Skill in map reading
  • Skill in performing mathematical calculations with skill and accuracy
  • Skill in operating various hand and power tools
  • Skill in reading and understanding technical manuals
  • Skill in providing effective customer service
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and various software applications

Responsibilities

  • Responds in a timely manner to work requests
  • Reviews and completes assigned work orders
  • Monitors and adjusts climates in building automated systems
  • Operates, repairs and maintains air conditioning and heating units, including commercial and residential chillers, within County buildings
  • Installs and repairs ice machines
  • Inspects electrical components to ensure efficient performance of refrigeration and heating systems; makes repairs as needed
  • Troubleshoots equipment
  • Performs routine maintenance duties such as replacing burned out light bulbs, delivery of office supplies and moving office furniture
  • Assists other maintenance staff as needed
  • During the first 72 hours following a disaster, remains ready and available for on-site response
  • Attends and participates in meetings and conferences as required
