HVAC Technical Specialist - Central Campus FUNCTION: Under the direction of the District HVAC Supervisor, performs a variety of basic technical tasks related to service and repairs of all heating and air condition. Oversees preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure optimum efficiency and equipment life. Provides recommendation for HVAC training classes and seminars for department personnel. Leads HVAC team in preventative maintenance program, special programs, equipment overhauls and major repairs. Manages chill water chemical treatment process for all campuses. Provides technical consultation during design, procurement, installation and startup of new systems. Essential Job Functions: Assures that you have complete knowledge of appropriate procedures and take measures to assure safe outcomes for all tasks undertaken. Provide college-wide troubleshooting and operational technical assistance to department staff on HVAC chilled water distribution, cooling towers, centrifugal & reciprocating compressors, heat exchangers, pumps, and air handling systems. Evaluate operational performance and operational sequencing for HVAC systems. Oversees and advises of proper practices and procedures for repair, overhaul, and parts procurement for HVAC systems equipment and machinery. Provides technical consultation on design, procurement, installation, and start-up of new HVAC systems equipment. Assist in development of periodic HVAC work task schedules. Deliver and provide recommendations for HVAC training classes and seminars for department personnel. Monitor and manage chilled water chemical treatment processes for all campuses. Assure Facilities Standards, procedures, and/or policies are being followed as necessary. Provide occasional temporary leadership duties as requested by College HVAC supervisor. Additional Job Functions: Communicates via e-mail in a timely manner. Communicates via phone calls in a timely manner. Direct observation of campus facilities walking, climbing, crawling required to observe conditions. Observe and report equipment issues. Be available for emergency after-hour work or to complete on-going projects and be willing to respond to calls any time during a 24-hour period. Attend meetings for new construction and reviews. Leads HVAC group with customer service issues Other duties as assigned

  • Read mechanical, electrical and plumbing blueprints, experience in automated building systems, chilled water, DX systems and chemical water treatment.
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Ten years’ experience in maintenance and repairs of commercial HVAC systems.
  • Class “A” HVAC license and Valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Associates Degree in HVAC.
  • Knowledge in pump rebuilding, pneumatic and electronic controls, computer programming of A/C systems.
  • MSDS requirements, safety, VFD’s knowledge, and electrical systems knowledge.
