About The Position

This position is assigned to Central Regional Maintenance within the HVAC Shop on the Dorothea Dix Campus and the Governor Morehead School of the Blind. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial air-conditioning and refrigeration units and associated air handling, chilled water distribution, and control system through supervision of a staff of air-conditioning mechanics engaged in this type of work. In addition, this position is responsible for designing smaller air-conditioning systems, designing modifications to existing systems, reviewing plans and specifications for contracted work, and reviewing the work of outside contractors. This position is a mandatory position and will be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 7:30AM to 4:30PM.

Requirements

  • Progressive knowledge and experience in working with commercial HVAC equipment, chillers, and refrigeration systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical troubleshooting digital and pneumatic controls.
  • Documented experience with reading and understanding blueprints, schematic and wiring diagrams.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
  • Current certification by Environmental Protection Agency as a 'Universal Technician' as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and up to three years of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems.
