About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $47,703 - $83,479 Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor IV, this position is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of the heating and cooling equipment for the facility. Applicants must have considerable knowledge of the design and operation of pneumatic and electrical control systems, and the practices, methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment. About Albemarle Correctional Institution: Albemarle Correctional Institution is located in Badin, North Carolina and houses up to 856 male offenders in a medium custody facility.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and/or equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of air-conditioning and/or refrigeration systems
  • Supervising employees and/or offender workers
  • Experience with reading schematics and blueprints
  • REQUIRES current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
  • Please make sure to list and/or attach a copy of your EPA Type I, II, III and/or Universal Technician certification on your application (see above requirement).
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and up to three years of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems including one year at the journey level
  • Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnosing equipment malfunctions and prescribing repair procedures.
  • Maintaining the correct temperatures for the facility and the proper temperatures of the refrigeration equipment for the kitchens and canteen warehouse.
  • Maintaining an inventory of parts required to repair the HVAC and kitchen equipment and proper tool inventory.
  • Operating the Maintenance Work Order System.
  • Training and supervising other workers.
