About The Position

We are looking for an HVAC/R Controls Technician to program, configure, and commission building automation and refrigeration control systems for commercial facilities. This position plays a key role in ensuring that HVAC and refrigeration systems operate efficiently, reliably, and in accordance with design specifications, energy standards, and customer expectations. The Controls Technician collaborates closely with project managers, field technicians, and clients to deliver high-quality control system functionality and optimized performance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in HVAC, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in HVAC or refrigeration controls programming, commissioning, or integration.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC/R systems, refrigeration racks, and control theory.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more major BAS/EMS platforms (e.g., Emerson E2, Danfoss, Honeywell, Trane, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider, etc.).
  • Proficiency in control logic programming, PID loops, network protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks), and low-voltage wiring.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and sequences of operation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites as needed for commissioning or support.

Responsibilities

  • Program, configure, and calibrate supermarket refrigeration control systems, including rack controllers, case controllers, and energy management systems (EMS).
  • Develop and modify control logic, sequences of operation, and setpoints to ensure optimal performance of refrigeration, HVAC, and lighting systems.
  • Perform start-up, commissioning, and functional testing of new or retrofitted refrigeration systems, including rack systems, condensers, and HVAC equipment.
  • Program and integrate multiple manufacturer systems, including Emerson E2, CPC, Danfoss, Micro Thermo, Novar, and others.
  • Troubleshoot programming, communication, and operational issues related to controls, sensors, and EMS networks.
  • Collaborate with installation and service teams to verify wiring, control integration, and network communication.
  • Maintain and update control software, system backups, and documentation for each site.
  • Implement energy optimization strategies and assist with utility incentive or retro-commissioning projects.
  • Support field technicians and customers with technical guidance, system modifications, and training.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, project specifications, and safety procedures.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
