About The Position

The HVAC Mechanical Data Centre Technician is responsible for overseeing and executing planned and reactive maintenance tasks within a data centre environment. This role involves ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, managing maintenance work, and liaising with engineering management and clients to maintain high standards of service and safety. The technician will report to the Engineering Supervisor and support shift teams in delivering maintenance tasks efficiently and effectively.

Requirements

  • Manual Handling Training (advantageous).
  • HV experience (advantageous).
  • Current Wiring Regulations certificate.
  • Level 3 NVQ in HVAC discipline or equivalent.
  • Emergency First Aid at Work Qualification.
  • Experience in real-time incident/fault management in a business-critical environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role within a similar organization.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety obligations concerning maintenance activities.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Numerate and literate.
  • Diligence in safe working practices for themselves and occupants.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of personal integrity.
  • Ability to work well both in a team and independently.
  • Organized and able to prioritize in high-pressure environments.
  • Courteous and presentable for client interactions.
  • Ability to ascend and descend vertical access equipment.
  • Flexibility regarding working hours.
  • Knowledge of multiple interlinked systems (Fire, PMS, BMS).
  • Ownership and accountability in tasks.
  • Experience with critical mechanical plant (e.g., chilled water systems, pumps, ACUs, motors, fans, adiabatic cooling systems).
  • Experience with HVAC systems (e.g., split units, CRAC units, air and water-cooled chillers, dry air coolers).

Nice To Haves

  • PASMA & IPAF certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Control and supervise work tasks for planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Liaise with engineering management and client personnel to ensure compliance with site policies and health and safety requirements.
  • Respond to Building Management System alarms and perform emergency repairs as needed.
  • Issue and ensure appropriate controls within the Permit to Work systems.
  • Create and utilize required switching schedules, SOPs, and EOPs in line with company policies.
  • Ensure suitable spares are available for maintenance of critical plant.
  • Prepare Method Statements and Risk Assessments for in-house tasks to ensure safe working practices.
  • Supervise engineering subcontractors for compliance with contractual commitments.
  • Develop good working relationships with staff and clients.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy working environment in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Present a professional image to clients and visitors, promoting excellence in customer service.
  • Maintain professional and technical skills through personal development and lifelong learning.
  • Ensure work packs include required documentation, including review of Subcontractor RAMS.
  • Keep training and personal development up to date, fostering a strong team culture.
  • Provide incident support during unplanned incidents or faults on site.
