About The Position

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a HVAC Mechanic, Housing and Residential Education. - Boca Raton, FL. The HVAC mechanic is responsible for installing, operating, repairing, and maintaining commercial HVAC systems and related equipment for the department of Housing and Residential Education.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and four years of appropriate experience required.
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades
  • Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot malfunctions on HVAC units and related equipment.
  • Repair or replace compressors, condensers, valves, piping, thermostats, motors, belts, and other parts as needed.
  • Balance HVAC systems and recharges and recovers refrigerants.
  • Routinely inspect all residential facilities and ensure that deficiencies are corrected.
  • Enter, receive, and report all work orders through the Housing Work Order system.
  • Review and assign all corrective, preventive, and emergency work requests in consultation with the supervisor.
  • Contact vendors and suppliers and facilitate the purchase of supply parts and tools as needed.
  • Assist with the room turn process, ensuring living units are safe, clean, and ready for occupancy.
  • Assist with repairs and preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment, including chiller plants, energy management systems, building controls, and related equipment.
  • Maintain records and logs of all equipment history and plant operations as required.
  • Clean and maintain work areas and personal equipment.
  • Provide support to other Maintenance Specialists with HVAC, plumbing, and general maintenance to ensure timely and efficient repair of buildings and equipment.
  • Comply with applicable environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations, university policy, and accepted safe work practices.
  • Respond to emergency and after-hours equipment failures to ensure continuation of service and operations.
  • Designated as essential personnel to provide support during campus emergencies.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
