About The Position

This is a union position with an hourly rate of $39.81. The role involves performing duties as described in the Service Contract Act Service Order for Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Mechanic. The employee may also perform duties of other classifications that have a pay rate equal to or lower than their current rate.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Journeyman HVAC Mechanic 'Duval County' License.
  • Universal EPA Certification (40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F).

Responsibilities

  • Installs, services, and repairs environmental-control systems in various settings including residences, department stores, and office buildings.
  • Utilizes knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout.
  • Mounts compressor and condenser units on platforms or floors using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.
  • Fabrics, assembles, and installs ductwork and chassis in air duct systems using hand tools.
  • Cuts and bends tubing to correct lengths and shapes using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.
  • Joins tubing or pipes to refrigerating units using sleeves, couplings, unions, and solder joints to form complete circuits for refrigerant.
  • Installs expansion and discharge valves in circuits.
  • Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power sources.
  • Installs air and water filters in completed installations.
  • Injects refrigerant into compressors to test systems and adds freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure.
  • Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operation.
  • Tests joints and connections for gas leaks using gauges or soap-and-water solutions.
  • Wraps pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place with cement or wire bands.
  • Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units using electrician's hand tools and test equipment.
