About The Position

The HVAC Mechanic installs, maintains, inspects and repairs refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, pneumatic and electronic controls, heating and cooling facilities and does general maintenance work in all HVAC equipment. The Facilities Services & Planning (FS&P) division is key in helping Stanford Health Care accomplish this mission. With a fast-paced, tech-savvy, and lean culture that focuses on goals, metrics, and continuous improvement, FS&P provides non-clinical operational support to Stanford Health Care and other Stanford Medicine entities to ensure safe and successful non-clinical operations 24/7 and plan for the organization's future facility needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Four (4) to six (6) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
  • Five (5) years of health care HVAC field work, preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to and deal with change and ambiguity.
  • Ability to operate standard tools, instruments and equipment used on the job.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
  • Ability to solve problems and identify solutions.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.
  • Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and repair.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent from a Technical/Trade School with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, preferred.
  • CMM - Certified Maintenance Manager preferred.
  • [Steam Plant]: Minimum 4th Class Stationary Steam Engineer Certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive maintenance work on HVAC equipment in accordance with the correct procedures and recommends changes in existing equipment and conditions for better operating efficiency.
  • Installs new air conditioning units and systems, connecting the systems to required services and testing for proper operation.
  • Installs, calibrates, and maintains manual, automatic pneumatic and electronic controls on all HVAC equipment.
  • Maintains tools, equipment and work area assigned. Prepares requisitions for supplies or materials required for given, authorized work in accordance with established procedures.
  • Performs welding and brazing, and soldering on HVAC equipment in accordance with recognized and proper procedures.
  • Repairs, maintains, and diagnoses problems regarding centralized air handling units for both electrical and pneumatic controls.
  • Responds to complaints for heating or cooling and makes adjustments to bring it up to the necessary comfort levels as required by the occupants.
  • Tests and balances the heating, cooling, ventilating, and air conditioning to conform to the proper specifications and code requirements.
  • Assists other crafts on shutdowns involving heating and cooling, and power supply for refrigerated system.
