About The Position

Tessera is seeking a dependable and motivated HVAC Mechanic I to support daily operations at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). In this entry-level role, you’ll assist with the maintenance, repair, and inspection of HVAC/R systems that are essential to the comfort and functionality of the installation. Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in commercial HVAC/R systems
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required
  • Proficiency in HVAC diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Familiarity with EMCS and programmable control systems
  • Skilled in safe use of hand and power tools, meters, and gauges
  • Knowledge of applicable safety codes, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements
  • A valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance.
  • Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an acceptable alternative, such as a U.S. passport or military ID, in accordance with the REAL ID Act.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access.
  • A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly inspections and annual maintenance on air- and water-cooled chillers of all sizes, including condenser tube cleaning
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on HVAC systems including air handlers, boilers, exhaust fans, and refrigeration units
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC malfunctions using diagnostic tools and technical documentation
  • Install, repair, and calibrate thermostats, sensors, and control devices
  • Clean and replace air and water filters, belts, and other consumables
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer manuals
  • Connect motors, compressors, fans, and control panels to power sources and verify proper operation
  • Fabricate and install ductwork, piping, and mechanical components as needed
  • Support EMCS operations by verifying sensor accuracy and system responsiveness
  • Perform minor repairs on kitchen refrigeration equipment when assigned
  • Respond to customer service requests, communicate findings, and recommend corrective actions
  • Ensure all work meets quality control standards and complies with applicable codes and safety regulations
  • Document work performed using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
