About The Position

HVAC Mechanic I: The HVAC Mechanic I performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for municipal facilities. As part of the Building Maintenance Team, this position is responsible for a variety of tasks related to the upkeep of City buildings and properties, with a specialty in HVAC system troubleshooting and repair, as well as supporting other trades such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance. The HVAC Mechanic I works under limited supervision and is expected to perform both routine and emergency HVAC repairs, ensure compliance with safety standards, and collaborate effectively with other maintenance staff. HVAC Mechanic II: The HVAC Mechanic II performs skilled and advanced work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems across municipal buildings. A part Building Maintenance Team, this position takes on greater responsibility, working independently or leading small teams to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain complex HVAC systems, as well as providing support in other building maintenance areas, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and custodial services. The HVAC Mechanic II plays a key role in maintaining the overall functionality of building systems, ensuring comfort and safety for building occupants, and overseeing preventive maintenance and emergency repair operations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Completion of an HVAC apprenticeship program.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience in HVAC installation, maintenance and repair is preferred (HVAC Mechanic I)
  • Five years of HVAC maintenance experience (HVAC Mechanic II)
  • Significant building maintenance experience with plumbing, electrical, or mechanical repairs (HVAC Mechanic II)
  • OSHA 30 Hour Construction certification (HVAC Mechanic II)
