About The Position

The Facilities Management – Energy Services department is seeking a skilled individual to perform routine repairs and preventative maintenance on all heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. The role requires familiarity with electrical and mechanical drawings, low voltage controls, motor controls, and DDC controls. The technician will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and safety of equipment in designated buildings, completing necessary documentation, and providing backup support while interacting with various supervisors. This position involves working on roofs, climbing ladders, and being available for emergency call-ins. The technician must operate a motor vehicle and be capable of working alone while lifting reasonable amounts of weight without physical restrictions. The work schedule includes rotating shifts, covering weekends and holidays as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma; some trade school preferred.
  • Connecticut State HVAC license required (D2).
  • Experience in a systems-oriented environment with exposure to servicing.
  • Familiarity with tools and instruments related to the HVAC industry.
  • Knowledge of electrical techniques and ability to read floor plans.
  • Possession of EPA, OSHA, or state licenses or certifications is desirable.
  • Valid State of Connecticut driver's license in good standing.
  • Good physical condition.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DDC controls such as Alterton and Carrier Comfortworks.
  • Previous experience in a university or educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine repairs and preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment in campus buildings, dormitories, townhouses, and the Central Utilities Facilities complex.
  • Maintain air handling units, including filter replacements and pneumatic controls.
  • Read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Ensure the adequate operation, temperature, pressure, and safety of equipment.
  • Notify supervisor of any abnormal pressures and temperatures before making adjustments.
  • Assist in the installation of new or repaired equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of equipment rooms.
  • Complete documentation, including requisitions for supplies and logging records of malfunctions and repairs.
  • Provide backup support in the absence of the Associate Director of Energy Services and Supervisor, HVAC.
  • Interact with supervisors on major equipment problems and recommend corrective actions.
  • Participate in departmental growth and development through meetings and seminars.
  • Promote safe working conditions and report unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
