The HVAC Mechanic B position is responsible for maintaining and servicing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems across all College locations, including Paramus, Lyndhurst, and Hackensack. This role requires a commitment to providing high-quality customer service to the College community. The HVAC Mechanic will perform skilled HVAC work, which includes the installation and repair of general HVAC systems and equipment. This involves inspecting and testing systems to identify defective parts and ensuring proper functioning. The position also entails maintaining, repairing, and replacing various systems such as hot water, condenser, and chilled water systems, along with pumps, control valves, heat exchangers, and cooling towers. In addition to the above responsibilities, the HVAC Mechanic will maintain and repair heating, cooling, humidification, and filtering equipment, including fans, heat pumps, and rooftop package air conditioning units. The role requires troubleshooting HVAC complaints, making recommendations for both short and long-term actions, and installing or repairing sheet metal ducts and insulation. The HVAC Mechanic will also be responsible for maintaining residential boilers, performing daily inspections, and taking corrective actions as necessary. The position requires the operation of energy management systems and the maintenance of Direct Digital Control systems related to HVAC equipment. The HVAC Mechanic will work collaboratively in a diverse environment, calibrating temperature, pressure, and humidity controls, maintaining inventory, and responding to emergencies as required. The role also includes clearing snow and ice as needed and requires knowledge of electrical safety, building codes, and Internal Air Quality (IAQ) Guidelines. The position demands a proactive approach to preventative maintenance and the ability to manage both electronic and manual information systems effectively.
