HVAC Mechanic 1
About The Position
Performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Follows blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. Performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems. Maintains and secures a spare parts inventory. Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies. Typically requires an apprenticeship and/or completion of technical training. Requires a high school diploma. The regulations governing the location may require an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. May require 0-2 year of general work experience.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization or vocational training in HVACR with 1 year experience.
- Valid drivers license to drive State vehicles

- Associates or technical degree or certification in HVAC field and experience with Johnson Controls Metasys
Responsibilities
- Performs routine corrective repairs and preventative maintenance to a variety of building heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) equipment under close supervision. This includes air handling units, chillers, heat pumps, boilers, pumps, exhaust fans, fan-coil units, variable air volume boxes, motors, air distribution machinery, pneumatic and digital controls, hot and chilled water distribution and variable volume systems. Performs seasonal transitions of systems to and from heating and cooling.
- Performs basic repairs of HVACR systems and equipment including air handling units, chillers, heat pumps, exhaust fans, fan coil units, variable air volume boxes, motors, pumps, air distribution machinery, pneumatic and digital controls, hot and chilled water distribution and variable volume systems.
- Assists in major component replacement and systems repairs under the supervision of higher-level technicians. Assists in executing HVACR system repair projects, such as the replacement of air handling units, chillers or boilers as well as emergency repair efforts to repair such units.
- May be required to serve in an on-call status and remain work-ready when scheduled for an on-call period or rotation.
- Perform all other duties/tasks as required.
