About the position

Penn State Dickinson Law Carlisle is searching for a full time HVAC Maintenance Mechanic to join their team. The position involves a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems, electrical circuits, plumbing, and general facility upkeep.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and perform routine repairs on building, heating, and chilled water supply and return lines.
  • Check temperatures in condensate lines and traps; repair or replace traps as required using temperature sensing and recording equipment.
  • Clean, repair, or replace strainers, valves, operators, and other fittings as required.
  • Service, maintain, repair and replace chilled water, hot water, and steam coils.
  • Service, maintain and perform repairs on air handling equipment such as univents, fan coil units, exhaust fans, make-up air fans, unit heaters, air handling units for single and multiple zones.
  • Lubricate, clean filters and coils; change belts and bearings, and replace pulleys.
  • Service, maintain, replace and perform routine repair on converters, radiators, and radiation units.
  • Assist outside mechanic, as needed, on complex repairs to HVAC, electric, and plumbing systems and equipment.
  • Inspect, adjust, and perform routine repairs to electrical and pneumatic controls for HVAC equipment.
  • Maintain and install electrical circuits, equipment, outlets, switches, and light fixtures.
  • Remove, replace, and/or make minor repairs to electrical motors, switches, relays, coils, etc.
  • Adjust heat controls in each building to maintain prescribed temperatures.
  • Perform routine plumbing repairs such as replacing washers, diaphragms on flushometer, changing faucets, cleaning traps and sand screens, unclogging drains, tightening joints.
  • Install new lighting and other electrical circuits in offices, classrooms and various other areas.
  • Install and wire equipment such as motors, lighting, panels, etc.; maintain electrical equipment.
  • Install soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers and other accessories.
  • Operate school vehicles and equipment; remove snow from walkways, roadways, stairways, and entrance ways using hand and power equipment.
  • Spread anti-skid and melting materials.
  • Remove, move, and/or relocate furniture, equipment, supplies and construction materials.
  • Assist in set-up and clean up of chairs, tables, lecterns, etc., at various locations for banquets and other events.
  • Operate tractors and power mowers to cut grass, trim lawns, weed, and perform other landscape duties.
  • Rake and sweep to remove leaves, paper, and other debris from lawns, parking lots and walkways.
  • Perform operations utilizing power tools.
  • Use a variety of hand tools.
  • Respond to emergency calls and perform necessary repairs.
  • Empty waste containers.
  • Remove and dispose of trash and debris from all work areas, as scheduled.

Requirements

  • Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments.
  • Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training.
  • Must have the DER approved Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification.
  • Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of effective experience.
  • A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required.
