About The Position

Job Summary: Installs and services oil and LP gas fired appliances and related equipment in residential and commercial establishments. Ensures all work is performed to meet state and federal code requirements. Supervisory Responsibilities: · None.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of how residential and commercial heating systems, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment operation and function.
  • Ability to trouble shoot, diagnose, and evaluate misfunctions of heating and cooling systems.
  • Proficient in reading schematics, blueprints, and work plans
  • Ensures compliance with appliance standards, codes, and OHSA requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • State of Maine driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • State of Maine Fuel Board Apprentice, Journeyman or Master Oil license
  • State of Maine Tank Setter Propane License
  • State of Maine Appliance Connection and Service Propane License
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Will regularly be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and occasionally sit.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat.

Responsibilities

  • Installs oil and LP gas heating systems, furnaces, boilers, water heaters, heat pumps, mini-split systems, central air conditioning systems, air handlers, ductless systems, thermostats, and zone controls in accordance with manufacturer specifications and all state and federal codes.
  • Assembles and positions oil storage and LP gas storage tanks per current state and federal regulations.
  • Performs complete system installations including piping, venting, ductwork modifications, refrigerant piping, control wiring, and equipment set-up.
  • Ensures all newly installed units are properly started, tested, and functioning safely and efficiently.
  • Verifies proper combustion, airflow, refrigerant charge (when applicable), and overall system operation prior to job completion.
  • Maintains organized truck stock and required installation materials.
  • Completes all required installation paperwork accurately, including work orders, equipment registration, P3, Tank Sure, and code compliance documentation.
  • Maintains positive relationships with customers, vendors, inspectors, and coworkers during installation projects.
  • Stays current on installation best practices, manufacturer updates, and applicable federal, state, and local codes.
  • Monitors license renewal dates and continuing education requirements to remain compliant.
  • Coordinates with dispatch and service team to ensure smooth job transitions and proper system handoff.
  • Provides on-the-job training and guidance to apprentices, ensuring quality workmanship, adherence to safety standards, and efficient use of labor during installation projects.
  • Ability to participate in scheduled on-call rotation when required.
  • Responds to installation-related callbacks and assists with resolving post-installation concerns promptly and professionally.
