The Opportunity The Controls Specialist Supervisor serves as a senior technical leader and people manager within the Controls organization, responsible for overseeing the execution of complex Building Automation System (BAS) projects while leading and developing a team of Controls Specialists and Technicians. This role combines advanced technical expertise with supervisory responsibility to ensure high-quality project delivery, standardization of best practices, and continuous development of team capability. The Controls Specialist Supervisor acts as a key escalation point for technical issues and plats a critical role in aligning field execution with operational and business objectives.

Requirements

  • Advanced expertise in DDC programming, controls architecture, and BAS design.
  • Strong experience with multi-protocol integration, including BASnet, Modbus, and LonWorks.
  • Advanced knowledge of IP networking and troubleshooting within BAS environments.
  • Experience with energy analytics, system optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Deep understanding of HVAC mechanical systems and their interaction with control systems.
  • 6 – 10+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS).
  • Prior experience in a lead, supervisory, or project leadership role preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex BAS projects and mentor technical teams.
  • Recognized as a technical subject matter expert in controls systems.
  • Relevant certifications or experience with BAS platforms such as Niagara, Distech, or similar preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support the execution of large-scale, multi-system BAS projects from initiation through commissioning and closeout.
  • Architect and review control strategies, sequences of operation, and system designs for complex applications.
  • Provide advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and system optimization support across projects.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical challenges.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of Controls Specialists and Technicians.
  • Conduct performance management activities, including goal setting, feedback, and development planning.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure commissioning activities are executed effectively and systems meet design specifications and customer expectations.
  • Drive quality standards across all projects, ensuring consistency in programming, installation, and system performance.
  • Identify opportunities for system improvements, energy efficiency, and operational optimization.
  • Establish and enforce best practices, technical standards, and programming consistency across the Controls team.
  • Lead initiatives to improve processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance operational efficiency and scalability.
  • Partner with Sales and Engineering teams to support estimating, design reviews, and project planning.
  • Provide technical guidance on system architecture, integration strategies, and project feasibility.
  • Collaborate with Operations to align field execution with project schedules and financial objectives.
