HII Mission Technologies is seeking a HVAC CAD Engineer to support our customer in Chesapeake, VA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating, modifying, and managing detailed engineering drawings and designs for HVAC systems using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software. You'll work closely with project managers, engineers, and technicians to ensure all designs meet project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. This position requires strong technical proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. This position is contingent upon contract award.

  • Works closely with design originators preparing drawings of unusual, complex or original design.
  • Prepares drawings, which require a high degree of precision.
  • Performs unusually difficult assignments requiring considerable initiative, resourcefulness, and drafting expertise.
  • Assures that anticipated problems in manufacture, assembly, installation and operation are resolved by the drawing produced.
  • Exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data based on knowledge of the design intent.
  • Ability to gain knowledge with all tools of the trade (CAD program, rulers, compass, divider, calculator etc.) and of drafting and design standards.
  • Provides advice, guidance, and instruction to drafters.
  • May serve as primary point of contact for complex drafting projects.
  • Ability to prepare a complete drawing package without supervision.
  • Ability to lead site visits to vessels and shore sites to gather technical data for drawing development.
  • Calculates weight and moments changes as a result of drawing.
  • Calculates electrical loads or heat loads for specific drawing and provide proper breakers, cable type/size or heat exchanger for requirements.
  • Selects proper material for structural members.
  • Assists Electrical/Mechanical Engineers for stress/electrical/mechanical calculations.
  • Revises drawings to reflect As-Installed Conditions.
  • Train for LiDAR scanning.
  • Ability to utilize World Wide Web for research.
  • Ability to research existing conditions and where to find that information.
  • Ability to assist in customization of CAD Software.
  • 0 years experience with Bachelors in related field.
  • Client experience requirements: Between 0 to 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Client education requirements: BA/BS degree in Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, Marine or Naval Architecture, or a relevant field; Candidate must have an undergraduate degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • 4 years of additional equivalent experience can be substituted for a BA/BS degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Proficiency in CAD software.
  • Knowledge of Government and Commercial Design and Drafting requirements.
  • Computer literacy, including use of word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Knowledge of designing and drafting software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to sustain keen attention to detail.
  • An active Secret Security Clearance.
  • Thorough knowledge of Model Space/Paper Space techniques.
  • Complete understanding of Weight Group assignments for Ships Systems and manual for Bureau of Ships Consolidated Index/Expanded Ship Work Breakdown Structure) BSCI/ESWBS grouping.
