The HVAC Apprentice position at Denver International Airport involves working alongside skilled trades professionals to support the maintenance and installation of HVAC systems. This role is part of the City and County of Denver's Apprenticeship Program, which provides extensive on-the-job training and opportunities for career growth within the HVAC trade. The apprentice will gain hands-on experience while contributing to the comfort needs of airport guests and tenants.

  • Assist in installing HVAC Systems by supporting HVAC professionals in installing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Perform routine inspections of HVAC systems under the supervision of a senior technician to ensure efficient operation and identify potential issues.
  • Maintain tools and equipment by ensuring proper care, maintenance, and inventory of HVAC tools, supplies, and equipment.
  • Accurately document service tasks, maintenance records, and any changes to equipment or system configurations using work order management software.
  • Learn to diagnose HVAC system malfunctions using tools such as pressure gauges, electrical meters, and refrigerant testing devices under the guidance of experienced technicians.
  • Help implement energy-saving upgrades or modifications to HVAC systems, such as retrofitting outdated components with more efficient technologies.
  • Learn and adhere to environmental safety protocols, such as proper refrigerant handling, recovery, and recycling, in compliance with EPA regulations.
  • Regularly attend safety meetings and training sessions to stay informed of new procedures and safety standards in the HVAC field.
  • Collaborate with other airport maintenance and operations teams to ensure efficient and coordinated support for airport infrastructure.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to shadow experienced HVAC professionals to gain practical insights into complex systems and advanced repair techniques.
  • Use various diagnostic equipment to help conduct tests on HVAC systems to ensure they are functioning correctly after installation or repairs.
  • Understand and apply local building codes, airport regulations, and compliance standards during HVAC-related work.
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate.
  • One (1) year of experience performing a variety of duties in construction, mechanical, or facility maintenance.
  • A valid driver's license is required at the time of application.
  • A willingness to learn new skills and grow within an organization.
  • An interest in the trades industry.
