About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity for a Husbandry Technician I to join our ARC Husbandry team. The Husbandry Technician I provide daily care for model species in standard and specialized husbandry settings. This includes performing regularly scheduled cage changing in conventional and high-density barrier housing areas, observing murine models for abnormalities, and maintaining adequate food and water supplies in enclosures. This role will be responsible for operating within routine Husbandry environments and in specialized Husbandry housing areas such as quarantine, Specific Pathogen-Free (SPF) production areas, or biohazard containment. It will also maintain a high standard of customer service and communicate effectively with research personnel, ARC staff, and representatives from outside institutions. The ARC Husbandry Services unit provides essential daily husbandry support and maintains high standards of welfare in both routine and specialized housing environments to facilitate the research mission at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in animal care or veterinary facility or animal husbandry related field preferred.
  • Some experience with disinfection, sterilization, sanitation, and environmental microbiological analysis preferred.
  • Some experience with changes in animal health conditions preferred.
  • Some experience operating animal caging and sanitation equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute assigned animal husbandry tasks with guidance (e.g., maintenance of animal holding & procedure rooms; routine sanitation; food and water supply & drug dosing management; scheduled cage changing).
  • Perform routine techniques on animals (e.g., treatments, formalin fixation) as per defined guidelines.
  • Assist in veterinary treatments on research models, special observations, and other study-directed requests.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records as required.
  • Escalate issues and problems according to set standards and SOPs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
